Generus Helps Optum Employees Build Beds for Sleep in Heavenly Peace
Updated: Oct 1, 2019
On Friday, September 20, 100 Optum employees gathered in a parking lot donated by Tasty Burger and built beds for children in need in the greater Boston area, in conjunction with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and facilitated by Generus.
After an initial training and organizational session led by Generus founder and CEO, Jamie Larsen, Optum teams spent more than four hours on a beautiful, 80 degree September day drilling, sanding, staining, and assembling headboards and footboards. Two chapters of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a volunteer organization whose mission is that "no kid sleeps on the floor in our town," were present to facilitate, Boston and Middlesex County.
Everyone had a great day. The project fostered leadership skills in the volunteers and employee organizers. Teams grew closer through the shared experience of giving hands-on community service together, and everyone enjoyed the satisfaction of making a meaningful difference.
“Working with Generus and the SHP team was such a positive experience," said Becca Ercolani, Scaled Agilist in Optum's Boston office. "The activity was so fulfilling to complete and I’m excited to watch as the beds we assisted in building get delivered to families in need.”
